2007 Bromeliad Extravaganza September 29, 2007 An August Update The 2007 Bromeliad Extravaganza being hosted by the Bromeliad Society of Broward County (BSBC) on behalf of the Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies (FCBS) is now in the final stages of preparation. The well planned advertising program is rendering good results as exemplified by the number of hotel and banquet reservations being made. Our mailing of notices and updates has resulted in more people becoming familiar with the event and details. Our ads placed in the BSI Journal, the Tropical Garden (the magazine of the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens and others have been seen by many interested people who have contacted us for more information. In the weeks ahead we are planning other forms of dissemination to spread information on the Extravaganza activities. At the FCBS meeting on July 14th in Gainesville, the reps of all eleven societies attending were briefed on the advances made in the preparation of the event. They received an advance pre-print sample of the program which is being put together. Work on the booklet continues and we expect to be able to distribute the final version to all societies by mid-August. Several ads, including those of some societies have made the publication economically feasible. Chester Skotak and his wife Lorena will be poolside on the 28th for the welcome reception. He will address the banquet on Saturday with a presentation he has titled ”Chester on Chester”. The title itself will surely put banquet guests in a state of expectation. As is customary in all Extravaganzas, there will be a special display with bromeliads at the hotel entrance. Patricia Bullis has enthusiastically accepted Bullis Bromeliads to be the designer of the display. Those who have been amazed at the display Bullis Bromeliads assembled at the last Bromeliad Society of South Florida Show in April will be equally impressed by what will await them in September. The entrance to the hotel is a magnificent showcase for this special display. We are all extremely thankful to Patricia for this contribution. Finally, De Roose Plants ,Inc., famous for its spectacular bromeliads is donating 150 of its mini Guzmanias to adorn the banquet tables. Every guest will be able to take home a plant as a memento of the Extravaganza. We are now one month and a half away from the event. It is time to make effective your intention to make your early reservations at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel(954-920-3300) for the banquet and a room. Pepe Donayre Show Chairman |
