“ Landscaping with Bromeliads”
David will take us on a guided tour of  the landscapes in our area  with the use of bromeliads in the design. He currently operates Trinity Churchside Garden in Fort Lauderdale, where he gives walk-and –talk lectures. He also owns Living Systems 
Consulting and Landscape/Design.

About our Guest Speaker

David Mclean speaks for all levels of horticulture in South

Florida. He retired in 2003 from the landscape Technology

Program at Broward Community College where he taught all

facets of horticulture and landscaping courses. It included seven

different plant identification courses, landscape design, and practical horticulture. David holds a BS from the University of Miami with a major in Zoology with emphasis in Entomology and a minor in Botany. Educational up-dating comes from community trade and academic seminars, both as attendee and as a speaker. He has written and taught many of the landscape technology courses at BCC and is highly visible in community

Activities.

Memberships past and Present include Fairchild, Flamingo, Missouri and Selby Botanical Gardens and many associations including the Florida Nurserymen and Growers and Landscapers Association. Two tropical flowering tree societies, three rare fruit and vegetable groups, Florida native Plant Society, Broward County Bromeliad Society, The Bush Club, The Rare Fern and Exotic Plant Society, two herb societies and the Society of Economic Botany. Last spring her taught two native plant courses at BCC.

Text Box: My 12 year old son and I have 133 different Cryptanthus. I will be talking about the characteristics of the genus and growing tips. I will bring lots of my favorite crypts to show and sale along with other bromeliads.

Text Box: As for my bio - I got interested in Broms in 1985 with my 1st two plants and continued acquiring about 100 different broms a year thereafter. I currently have about 1800 different species and hybrids in 4500 sq ft of growing structures.

Text Box: I have been a  member of the West Coast, Tampa, Cryptanthus societies and BSI for many years. Currently I am President of the Tampa Guild for the 4th time.
