The President’s Message |
|
Our thanks to Ken Marks, our September speaker, who gave us a very well organized presentation on “Florida Native Bromeliads”. Both the abundant information on location, common names and characteristics and the crisp pictures he brought were excellent. We have followed the preparations for the Extravaganza 2006 by the South Florida Society very closely for many months. A number of our members attended the event and were very satisfied from what they all saw, from the plants on sale, the lectures, the dinner, to the highly competitive auction of special plants. Our Society contributed six plants. The Extravaganza sale at Miccosukee was fast and furious. Three members of our Society, myself, Ann Kauffman and Jim Kerns, took plants to the sale and returned almost empty handed. The same applies to the seven commercial vendors who saw their plants take flight. Now, it is time for us to make our Annual Auction this month a success. As you know, this is our biggest fund raiser every year. See more information on the Auction inside as prepared by JoAnn Heyer who graciously accepted to head the Auction Committee. To add further to our busy schedule, we will continue planning our April ’07 Show and Sale and start organizing for our September ’07 Extravaganza. Pepe |
