August has been a very eventful month for our Society. First, our Social-Mini Auction meeting was a great success and brought together a total of 53 members and relatives who participated actively in the fun. The combination of eating and bidding seems to be a very positive one because we ended up with a handsome sum for the Extravaganza 2007.

I have to thank all those who participated in the organization of the event particularly JoAnn Heyer who conducted the

Operation.  Also, many thanks to those who donated items for the auction, especially Jean Tease who brought three of her paintings and Larry Searle who came up with spectacular packages.  Auctioneers Colleen and Larry plus our mainstay Bill Frazel who handled the plant auction, I would say, very

productively. Many thanks also to all those who joined in the bidding. Wait for what will happen at our regular plant

auction in October!! We want to thank Jay and Calandra Thurrott for being with us that night. We all enjoyed his presentation on the San Diego Conference proceedings and prize plants..

Now, our eyes are fixed on the 2006 Extravaganza to take place on the 30th this month at the Miccossukee Resort under the auspices of the Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies and organized by the Bromeliad Society of South Florida. Its Chairman, Ed Prince, has a lot of great surprises for all those participating in the event. I hope we will have a good

representation there.
