The Presidents

Message

We have to celebrate the mild weather we are having. No damage so far; except perhaps for those Ae. Brevicolis which may be showing some cold damage having been barely exposed briefly to the upper 50’s. They are indeed the most sensitive ones on record in this area. Let us hope we can continue to cheat the winter. However, be prepared to bring some of your plants in or to cover them at short notice.

Preparations for our April 13th-15th Show & Sale are getting into full swing . Our Show Chair, Ann Schandelmayer has called upon a number of members to run the Committees. Colleen Hendrix is already getting judges; Richard Sedlak will be in charge of clerks; Polly Pascal will be responsible for awards and the Frazels plus Ann Kauffman will run the classification committee. However, no preparations would be successful without engaging as many members as possible to show their plants and enjoy their ribbons and awards. I hope this year we will all overcome our shyness, have many more entrants and beat the few traditional ones.

Besides a special general meeting dedicated to show our members how to prepare plants and how to improve them to have better chances at the ribbons, I am reprinting an article from our old “Bromeliad Commentary”. I am sure, this article will persuade you to put aside any doubts you may have about entering your plants in the show.
